slaughterer's call - all minos become frenzy, loose primal fury, think you declare when to use it

no marks bt deamonic gifts such as 15pts for 5+ scaly skin, 20pts? for +1 attack etc

they have made it so there is no point in taking herds anymore as chariots are core at 80pts each, you can have a unit of crapy ungore short bow raider skirmshers for 60pts for 10.

harpies are a special along with minos, who are 55pts basic, great weapon is +8pts. come with light armour basic and you can buy shields for 4 or 8. they get 1 impact hit each though at S5. bloodgreed changed to gain frenzy but always over run 1d6.

bestigor are gash so no point there.

razorgor are quite interesting, move 7, 4 attacks each at S5, but get +1 S on the charge and cause fear, T5 at 3 wounds each. only LD6 though so a unit of 3 for 165pts might be worth it for a special?

they can also pull chariots but why when the core one is soooo much cheaper [65pts cheaper in fact].

right then these 4 types of giant

1st type is a giant

2nd - jabbercrapname - fly,terror,immune to psych, any unit within 12 takes a LD check or suffers 1 wounds with no save, 5 attacks,T5, 5 or 6 wounds, pretty poo

3rd - cyclops dude - all enemy wizards with line of site take LD check, if fail, any failed attempts to cast spells = miscast, gets re-roll hits in combat against magic users, carrys massive rocks, treated as stone thrower with no min range.

4th - ghorgon - everything 6 S6, T6, W6, stubborn immune to psych 10 terror, can swap all its attacks for one hit which killing blows on 4+. if he does killing blow the he regains d3 wounds back.

law of the wild is pretty gash aswell
default- all units within 6 move d6+1, but can't charge 7+
5d6 S1 hits 7+
summon giant, ghorgon, or jabbercrap 16+, but then the wizard can't do anything else and probably dies afterwards.

big meat cleaver is win on the doombull, give him a million attacks at S6

spear for 50 that acts as a bolt thrower in combat

stonecrusher mace? remembered it was ok

no ward in the book, apart from one which gives you 2+ against flaming, and 4+ for your unit, so jog on cockthirster and tzeentch but thats it

regen is with light armour for 50pts

crown of horns 75pts, make you stubborn

banner 75pts give unit +1S

horn to allow all units within 36 to re-roll primal fury 50pts

staff of darkhoth casts crapy spell to move but not charge

primal fury - nearly everything has it, roll LD check when in combat, if you pas you get hatred, if you get double 1, hatred and frenzy

you can ambush, but not like the old. now you roll 1 dice for each unit you are ambushing
1 - you loose the scent [oh no] = your opponent chooses which board edge they come on from
2/3 - dont arrive yet
4 - left board edge
5 - right board edge
6 - beasts choose

you can only ambush a herd if you have a unit of the same type and at least equal unit size already on the board deployed normally

slugtongue is the only special dude i would recomend so far but only read the book for 10mins. hope this helps.

?! Yeah, beastherds with all those 2 S3 attacks each (and they've gone up in points in the new book too) would've been devastating to peoples hydras and greater daemons.....hitting was never the problem, you can't be "disgusting" with attacks at S3 unless you've got poison/killing blow etc etc.

Looks like we've been turned into a combat army with no armour and massively reduced manoueverability to me.

Pros in the new book: Unruly has gone. potentially the new rares. mutations (although are 1 per army sadly).

Undecideds. Minos (much better, much more expensive), razorgors, potentially the new rares. This hatred rule thing (will depend on who can get it, if its just gors and bestigor its basically useless). Harpies, special choices are at a massive premiun, with the armies now increased weakness to shooting (not skirmishers any more) they may be necessary though.

Cons. The thing that made my army different from every other army has been taken away. (raiders).
They've somehow managed to make ambush worse. (previously a 55% chance of appearing where you wanted behind your enemy, now a 16%).
The loss of marks - that's a huge nerf. No more tzeentch casters, no more fear causing beastlords, no more khornate dispel dice and frenzy (only thing that previously made bestigor an even remote possibility in any of my previous lists), no more 3d6" move spawn.
They've decided Gor were too cheap previously?!
Same for ungor.
They've somehow made bestigor worse rather than the massive boost they needed.
Instead of my hopes for core fast cav centigor, they're still special, aren't fast cav and are now 7 points more expensive, will be only movement 7 1/3rd of the time, gain the hatred if passed leadership check thing but have lost the ability to go frenzied. potential stubborn 1/3rd of the time does in no way make up for those losses.
They kept chariots core - you will see even fewer of the other core choices than ever.

The only "viable" army seems to remain, chariot spam, minos (or potentially razorgors) and rares to taste. Especially since they seem to have taken away the minotaur army (as doombull doesn't make minos core anymore).

Maybe I'm over reacting - I hope I'm over reacting. The more I read and the more I look at even our "new" models, the more annoyed I'm getting.

We have remade, re-boxed gor and ungor which are basically identical with a few more accessory type and head swap additions at a massively inflated price.
Bestigor look very monopose but nice (a shame their rules mean they prob wont ever get used)
The plastic minos are going to take a lot of getting used to, "on steroids" doesn't quite do them justice as they have muscles on their muscles (and look a little stupid because of it).
If the picture I've seen of the razorgor is accurate and not an artists impression then I don't have to worry about whether to use minos or razorgors - its potentially the worst model I've seen from GW in a decade.

No pics of any of the new rare stuff yet, but basically if that's it for our plastics (a repackaging of old models and some strange minos) then I really think something went very wrong during the development of the beasts book. (possible andy leaving halfway through and them changing direction with the new vetock guy?).

For the record I'm not saying the army will be "weak".

The minos look good enough that they can be the strong centre of any army what with increased usefulness against enemies that don't break. Just that all the things I loved about it (manoueverability, unpredictableness etc) seem to have disappeared.

Yeah I'm a bit wary about the fate of my army. The cyclops thing is great news though as that's exactly what my giant already is

Going to struggle in the special choice section. I have 2 units of centigor, 2 bestigor units (these are special now right?) and 1 mino unit at the moment. Will probably use my dragon ogres as razorgors so there's another but then two of my chariots are being pulled by similar beasts. In a way this is convenient because you've said razorgors can pull chariots but does this make them a special choice? If all these are a special choice each, who's up for 6000pt game sometime?

Will also struggle ranking up my gors, ungors will need re-equipping (and maybe re-basing?) which is a hassle.

A bit disapponting that chariots are core but if the 8th edition rumours are true hopefully things like all chariot armies won't be feasible if the victory conditions require non single models or something to control/capture things.

In terms of the rules, I'm going to miss their manoeuvrability too Jonny. Also think psychology might be a real problem with the loss of marks. I heard the doombull is dropping to Ld8, is that right?

To top it all off, 8th Ed might lead to some overhauls about how people design armies so not sure if I can be bothered to sort all of the above out only for things to get mixed up again...

Seeing vamp generals are Ld10 (and they both do most of the casting and will get to pass that on to their hero vamp casters) I doubt it.

Yeah saw the Mino's today in the flesh and those are some very big and very nice models. £27 for 3 though is quite a lot of £££ for plastic. All said and done they are tasty and I already have a really nice conversion in mind to make them into Bloodcrushers for my 40k Daemons.
