"Yes, yes!" said the fat merchant as he looked around the room nervously. The little coastal inn was not the dirtiest establishment he had ever been in, but it was close. "So long as you get him back to me unharmed..."

Deffgit nodded, sucked on his pipe and blew out a lungful of noxious smoke (the merchant coughed a little). "Don't you worry none mate, we'll get him home safe an' well."

"Thankyou, thank you sir... You won't mention this to anyone though... it's rather embarrassing to the family..."

"Huh! Don't think on it mate. I assume you ain't employing anyone else? said Deffgit.

"Nonononono.. no, of course not!" the merchant stammered, sweating a little (and knowing he had...) "You won't come across anyone else looking for him, if that's what you mean?"

"Hmmmm." said Deffgit.

"There he is, the funny looking begger!" shouted Nastyface from the cliff top. Salty Ogbad pointed his big spyglass in the direction the bearded pirate pointed.

"Aye, that'll be the git." said Salty "Signal the Kommodore."

As the pirates rushed towards the strangely-dressed human he squealed and scampered off into the jungle. He was spooked by the brutish buccaneers but genuinely terrified by the horde of Skaven coming from his left!

As he ran through a rocky arch he yelped in fright as the Norscan Black Orc suddenly clanked into view.

Unnoticed by most of those present, a Pink Horror slipped through a shimmering razor-thin cut in reality. The coruscating flames of Tzeentch flashed and twisted round him.

Mr Whalebelly and Infectus the Rat Ogre clashed, the pirate Ogre managed to fend of most of the mutated beast's laws.

The Skaven Plague Priest released a foul cloud of smoke - Fishgutz II and the Warlock known as Pauli Di'zguised choked and fell.

Wyrdtoof summoned the power of Gork and charged into the fight, with crackling green fire arced around his fists and club.

Even with the intervention of the Kommodore, Mr Whalebelly was still felled by the Rat Ogre.

The Black Orcs joined the fray and laid into the Plague Cultists with abandon!

The Skaven fled!

Wyrdtoof turned his attention on the Norscan Nuttaz and dealt with two of them in quick succession! This was a Shaman not to be messed with!

The merchant's son fled into the bushes and disappeared without a trace...

Howling winds in the Howling Marshes
The Ogresuns get Lost in the Bogs the Plague Covenant and the Red Toof Tribe take advantage

The Ogresuns had got lost again and had been wondered around for hours in the Howling Marshes. When the Plague Covenant and the Red Toof Tribe turned up either side of them the pirates offered a hefty sum of cash to the Skaven not to attack them and formed an uneasy alliance against the Forest Goblins. They smashed up the Goblins fairly well but fled (without paying the Skaven) before the rats get close to the little greenskins. The Skaven took up the fight and beat the already shaken Goblins something cruel.

The Ogresuns get ambushed by the Plague Covenant and the Black Orcs of Norsca

After finding a truly enormous stash of Wyrdstone, that had coalesced into its solid form the Wild Magic of the storm ripping around the Mermaid Emporium, when it appeared in the jungles north of Caragio, the Ogresuns were taken by surprise by two rival warbands both after their hoard.

The Ogresuns made the mistake of heading the wrong way - they tried to squeeze out through the gap between them rather than flying in the opposite direction. If they had run the Black Orcs would have been left far behind and a few pirates could have held up the speedy Skaven long enough for the heroes to (un-heroically) escape with the loot.

They did just manage to hold off both warbands and escape, but at a high cost in casualties and some loot: Three experienced pirates were killed and Wyrdtoof was captured by the Black Orcs of Norsca.

The Shaman’s release was negotiated by the Black Orcs’ Windcatcher and the Ogresun’s Warlock. The pirates suspect the Skaven were also involved, through supernatural means…

A warm day’s work
The Ogresuns lie in wait for the Plague Covenant and give them a broadside

Sweat ran down the backs of the Ogresuns and soaked through the filthy shirts as they lounged on the cliff-tops overlooking Skull Sands. They passed around bottles of three-water grog and grumbled about the heat. They had been waiting in the late summer sunshine all day and they were not happy about it. Just down the hill from the there was a rapidly flowing stream that bubbled out of a spring less than half a mile from them but occurred to none of them that the water would cool them down. It came far too close to washing, which they all knew was an unhealthily and dangerous thing to be avoided at all costs.

Salty Ogbad unshipped his brass telescope and scanned the horizon for the hundredth time that day.

“Still no sign of ‘em Kommodore” he said.

“Whassat?” yelled Deffgit.

Salty repeated himself without a second thought, and then continued “How long do we wait Boss? The Boyz is getting right fed up.”

The Kommodore puffed on his pipe a few times and stared at the distance tree-line. They had heard a rumour that the Plague Covenant were going to be at the Mermaid Emporium at dawn, so as soon as the weird and wonderful glass tank had appeared on the cliff top they had hurried to the high ground above it. The Skaven had not appeared though. Maybe he was being led a merry dance?

Suddenly there was movement in the trees! The huge albino Rat Ogre they call Infectius appeared, closely followed by a swarm of ratmen.

“This is it!” cried Salty as he saw them rushing up the slope “Beat to quarters!”

The pirates leapt from the ground, the grog bottle was forgotten for now, and organised themselves into a rough line. The Skaven advanced at speed in a mass – formed up into a tight block of ranks and files to protect them from the Orcs’ fire!

The pirates pelted the ratmen with dozens of crossbow bolts as they ran across the open ground, dropping a few of the front row. The Plague Covenant broke ranks at the last moment as they splashed across the stream. Whalebelly the Ogre rushed forward to meet the rat Ogre head-on; the two massive fighters had fought many times before but this would be the final round for one of them - both were after the other's blood.

Kommodore Deffgit directed the action as the Skaven crashed into the pirate's hasty line of battle.

Whalebelly was wounded by Infectius but the Ogre was made of tough stuff - he brought his hook-hand down into the Rat Ogre's right shoulder and tore a great gash though it's pale flesh. As the beast twisted in pain he ran it through with his cutlass and Infectius dropped.

The Plague Covenant were not expecting the fight with the Ogresuns that day and chose to fall back in good order rather than continue a fight they weren't going to gain anything from!

The Ogresuns and the Black Orcs of Norsca attack the Plague Covenant on two fronts

Whalebelly the Ogre sat down heavily on a flat rock and concentrated. Since Mattius had exploded in a flash of blue light he had been troubled by a need for revenge for the death of his friend. But he was unsure whose fault the Bretonnian wizard’s death actually was. After all, someone must be to blame: it just couldn’t have been an accident! After several minutes a small light came on in his eyes – it could only have been another wizard! A few minutes later he stopped feeling dizzy with the shock of this conclusion and started to think which wizard it was most likely to be… there were an awful lot of them knocking about these days… probably had something to do with the weird colour of the sky and the number of sea creatures that fell out of it… and all the monsters… Mattius kept talking about one of them who didn’t like him…

He stood and shouted “Dat’s da fella!!” as he lumbered off towards the inn where the rest of the Ogresuns were drinking with one name ringing through his head: Luciano Malatesta.

The Orc pirates stormed forward in a solid mass, drunk, angry and out for blood. The clearly reasoned evidence and logical assumptions of Mr Whalebelly arguments laid out the only conclusion that any of them could see: Malatesta killed Mattius and he must be made to pay for it.

The Skaven in his pay were searching the desolate Howling Marshes and both the Orc warbands caught them quite unawares.

Floggin Morr led the way, for some reason Mr Whalebelly's vitriol had had a particular effect on him.

The Norscans crashed into the Skaven flank with their full, and not insignificant, weight...

... but something bigger was coming for them.

The mutated and misshapen, crab-clawed Rat Ogre had a tricky secret that he revealed to the Black Orcs dismay - he breathed a great gout of fire over them!

Those that survived were furious and blackened (and a little excited by the prospect of such an unusual beasty to add to their saga!) they charged the monstrosity and laid into it with axe and sword.

Fishgutz III started arguing and shouting incoherently while the mysterious Pauli stood passively by and listened inattentively.

Whalebelly spotted his prey and made a dash for him - the wizard fell back before the determined advance of the sweaty brute!

Poxus rasied his prized bow and fired rapid volleys of arrows at Floggin Morr and the pirate was washed down-stream by the swift-flowing little river.

The wizard Malatesta made his escape and Mr Whalebelly took out his frustration on one of his minions!

The Turn of the Tide
The Ogresuns and the Plague Covenant clash for custody of some dishonest desperados

Thunder rumbled in the distance and the Ogresuns looked up and scanned the horizon. Half of them assumed it was gunfire and seemed a little disappointed when lightning flashed from the heavy clouds over the sea and another rumble follow a short while later.

The Celestial Warlock Pauli D’Izguised heard a rumour that a Tome of Sorcery was hidden in the garret of an old abandoned Watch Tower at Hanging Ditch, so he convinced Kommodore Deffgit to take the Ogresuns to the tower to retrieve it.

After the notorious Big Vera, of the Vercuso Bounty Office, posted a reward for a bunch of mutineers hiding in the mountains near the Penitentiary Luciano Malatesta decided to collect it, so he took the Plague Covenant to Hanging Ditch as back up. By chance the two warbands clashed, yet again!

The building that the mutineers had chosen as their hold-out was a sturdy tower in the centre of a mountain plateau. They were heavily armed and desperate and didn’t take kindly to anyone approaching the building too closely.

The pirates split into two groups and took cover from the hail of mutineers’ crossbow bolts.

The Plague Covenant stayed in one large mass and headed for the Kommodore!

The mutineers, knowing it was the noose for them if they were captured fire at anything they could see, the mutant crab-clawed Rat Ogre took the brunt of their fire for a few minutes!

Salty Ogbad’s party aimed a few shots at the horrific beastie as well, from the safety of the jungle trees.

Deffgit and Whalebelly headed for the narrow gorge on their right flank…

… closely followed by some of the toughest, battle-hardened pirates in the crew.

At Salty’s command, Badhook led a rush from the bushes to the cover of a sandy cliff, hoping to avoid the attention of the mutineers.

The Skaven pelted them with sling stones and arrows.

Leading the charge the Kommodore took and arrow in the leg and went over

The pirates of his group braced themselves for the charge!

Wyrdtoof and Nastyface tried to get to the action to lend a hand; the Shaman summoned the massive spectral club of Gork…

… but they were a long way off!

Swords clashed in the gorge as the battle was joined in earnest!

The Ogresuns were worn down: one after another fell to the greater numbers as the slightest advantage was pressed home by the Ratmen – every time one slipped or stumbled or was beaten to the ground a swarm of Skaven leapt on them with daggers drawn!

Luciano Malatesta pushed forward and brought his dark sorceries into play.

Salty Ogbad realised that the Skaven had the upper hand; half the crew were down – some of them would never get up again… he gave the signal to disengage.

Some hours later…

Darkness had fallen and the moons hung low in the sky, the wind swirled dead leaves in spirals, Pauli and Salty crept back to the tower at Hanging Ditch and watched… After searching the hide-out, turning every room of the tower upside down, the Skaven had left with the mutineers in chains, miserable and dejected, knowing they were going to their death.

Salty and Pauli cautiously went into the building, picking his way through the shattered doorway and over the broken furniture scattered over the flagstone floor. They climbed the steep wooden stairs into the upper floors; everywhere it was the same scene of destruction – the mutineers had ransacked the place even before the Skaven started searching.

The sickly blue-green light of the chaos moon reflected off the metal clasp on a heavy leather-bound book that stuck out from under a broken bed. Pauli greedily snatched it up and stroked it like some kind of treasured pet. Salty eyed the wizard cautiously as something odd seemed to be happening to him… the bone-structure of his face seemed to be moving, reforming under his skin… his clothing blurred and changed, fading and transforming into the somewhat familiar shapes of a Bretonnian sailor.

“What the zog?” muttered Salty as there before him stood Mattius Caboteur!

"Curse those zoggin rats! They turns up more often than a bad penny!" spat Salty Ogbad as he surveyed the rapidly approaching column of plague-cultists through his brass spyglass. Mattius Caboteur couldn't make eye-contact with the Orc Pirate and did his best to look nonchalant; he intently studied the clouds drifting overhead as if he’d never really noticed them before and whistled tunelessly…

"I suppose they might have heard about the Wyrdstone here too. Well, we’ll just have ta give 'em a knock on the head to remind them their manners." said Salty and snapped his spyglass shut.

Kommodore Deffgit, never the quickest-witted of Orcs and always stone-deaf, shook his head and blinked and squinted at the lantern hung from the ceiling – he was a more-than-normally befuddled as an after-effect of the censor-bearers poisons. The other Ogresuns in the room slowly came into focus as he sat up and swung himself unsteadily out of his hammock. It took him a while to realise they were all looking down-cast and disheartened. They eventually gave him the bad news: they hadn’t got the loot and Mr Whalebelly the Ogre, Capsize Naz and Bilge Badlug were all dead.

The pirates that had held back to shoot at the goblin reinforcements get jumped from behind!

More of the Orcs try to extract themselves from the mass of jabbing spears at their backs and rush to the aid of their beleaguered shipmates in combat with the spider.

After a bleak few minutes of vicious fighting the tide starts to turn back in favour of the pirates.

Mattius Caboteur gets knocked on the head.

Hogbreff took small lantern, that normal swung from the ceiling beams, down and cast around the wooden-walled chamber: it only dimly illuminated the darkness. The stench of stale rum, rotten supplies, dead fish, bilge-water and the castings off of a large and unhygienic Orc pirate crew was overpowering to say the least. Things moved in the shadowy corners. The Shaman looked at the Kommodore out of the corner of his eye.

Deffgit and Hogbreff ventured down into the dank lower-hold of the hulking pirate ship Ogresun – a place where most of the crew superstitiously feared to tread. Deffgit had been distant and distracted lately but he was dead-set on this strange plan and none of the ship’s offices had been able to talk him out of it – and not for want of trying!

As the two Orc pirates climbed down the steep stairs into the orlop the darkness was almost like a solid object, the lantern barely penetrated and distance. Piles of old barrels and crates were stacked up around them, lashed onto the huge timbers that were the bases of the great ship’s masts at their deepest point.

Deffgit took out an old rusted key and pushed it into a lock. With no small amount of effort the lock finally gave way and opened, the door it held swung noisily on ancient unused hinges. The Kommodore pushed Hogbreff forward into the last room. In the darkness heavy chains rattled.

The Ogresuns and the Red Toof Tribe gang-up to take down the Plague Covenant

After collecting a numerous (if diminutive) allied warband and a monsterous heavy hitter from bellow decks (equal to that of at one of their enemy’s) the Ogresun pirates went hunting. The Red Toof Tribe were expert trackers so the pirates let the local Goblins do what they did best and they found the pestilent Skaven in no time.

The two rat Ogres charged and slugged it out – each tearing lumps out of the other but neither gaining the upper-hand.

Mattius blasted the Skaven front rank with Winter’s Frost, a hurricane of icy lightning tore through them.

Not many were killed but several were stunned by the force of the magical weather.

Deffgit rushed into the fray while Salty stood watching his back.

When the evil magics of Skabius felled over a quarter of the Ogresuns in one gaseous explosion the Orcs ran and left the Goblins to their fate.
