My interpretation is that the model is not choosing to "use" equipment as would a marine with fist and power weapon. As it is not striking with a specific weapon, it merely is "with" both weapons and so would gain both bonuses. Funny

Basic Carnifex are freaking AWESOME. I run 1 at 195 points for basic Scytals, Bioplasma and Adrenal Glands. I4, S10, 5 attacks on the charge with rerolls to hit and a 12" plasma cannon. It almost ALWAYS makes its points back. They dont work on their own like they used to but as part of a whole army they work great. The new nids in whole work better as a synergy army rather than individual units.

And yeah, as i said before Nids arent specifically using special weapons, its just that whatever they are armed with adds abilities to the creature itself an the attacks it makes.
