Well here we are my birthday big game battle report, featuring Blessed Knight and Dazza's empire against my mate Ben's Orc and Goblins and my Ogres.

We decided in the end to only allow one Dispell scroll per side and use normal 2d6 magic with 1d6 dispell and it seemed to work fine.

Then it came to the mission and we decided to use one of the seldom used narrative missions from the big rule book, and we decided that Loot and Pillage (oi! that's my ale!) seemed to be a very appropriate choice.

we went against random terrain and as each side had just under 3k in armies that the deployment zone should be increased to 9" rather than the 6" in the book, (there was no way our armies would fit in a 6" deployment zone.

This mission is all about capturing the Inn at the crossroads and Bugman's delivery cart which would run away from the nearest unit each turn and has to be run down from a charge to capture, a task that proved quite difficult in a combat situation.

At the start I deployed my ogres on the right side of our deployment zone and the orcs on our left side, I was facing Dazza's empire, with Ben Orcs and goblins facing Lee's almost totally mounted empire.

The Empire get first turn and start ambling forwards and a unit of Dazza's handgunners take the Inn.
A smattering of accurate cannon fire from the enemy thinning our ranks with some effective magic.
We lose our mangler squig mainly due to a deployment error leaving it as easy and obvious target to take out.

We move forward and you can see my mournfangs are sitting up front in the middle of the board and the trolls taking up defensive duty on the left flank.
However due to some amazing rolling by ben his goblins all just stand there squabbling with each other. bloody goblins...

You can see Dazza's Marienburg class land ship sailing forwards opening fire with its big cannon causing some damage. but my ironblasters are loving the large target and both hit home taking half of its twelve wounds, my leadbelchers also open fire and obliterate the empire handgunner unit.

The empires guns again show that misfiring is not an option and cannon battery in the top left hand corner consisting of two rocket launchers a mortar and two cannons blast out into the orcs ranks

I charge my mournfangs and ogre bulls into Dazza's unit of swordsmen led by his bsb, a risky charge but if it works i can tear a hole in the centre of his army, Skrag and his unit of ironguts declares a charge on the land ship, but i roll a double 2 for distance and its a failed charged.

In fustration the leadbelchers blast out and one destroys the land ship whilst the other attempts to shoot the knights but in his target confusion misfires harmlessly.
the thundertusk is targeted again by cannon fire and is taken down my great assault plan has lost on of its useful strategies.

on the far side the goblins and spider riders charge Lee's handgunners and although winning combat the unit holds with a double one.
The black orcs charge the inn and kill all but one of the handgunners inside, who stubbornly hold and the black orcs and the Black Orc Genera are repelled.

The mournfang and bulls impact hits smash a hole in the swordsmen and the empire fluff their attacks leaving the ogres and mournfangs to rip the unit apart which flees and is run down, behind them the empire swordsmen also turn and run causing panic on a unit of crossbowmen who decide to leave the field loosing the tast for the captured ale.

UnfortunatelY though we dont make contact with the swordsman and my units are left in no mans land.
On the far side the trolls are hit by two units of knights after they charged lee's second unit of handgunners The trolls are reduced down to two who then knowing they have lost combat use their troll vomit killing two of the full plated knights. but they are run down and the knights march forward.

Dazza's greatswords have successfully ralied and a trail of panic has hurt the goblins ranks, our left flank is in tatters and the knights are preparing to run riot. Again the empire rain down fire on the enemy thinning the orcs ranks and the over running knights threaten to hit Ben's black orcs in the flank. my mournfangs are shot to peices leaving the bulls on their own.

The bulls charge into the greatswords hoping to perform on their own what they did with the mournfangs to the swordsmen, they get the charge and hit first knowing the swordsmen will hit back
skrag again attempts to charge and fails
The hunter smells blood and moves his mournfang forward to prevent the knights charging skrags unit baiting the knights to charge him.
Bens shaman gets foot of gork off and stomps dazza's knights who get lose their second rank to the big foot and then the foot hits again taking the his generals back line out.

The five remaining goblins and four boar riders charge Lee's red knights

whilst the black orcs turn to face the oncoming knights preparing to take the charge from the knights, his knights are caught of balance by the goblins and they fail to cause a wound, also the armour proves too much for the orcs and boar rider.

With the momentum of the charge they win combat and the knights shockingly break and ar run down by the goblins and boar boys. shockingly the goblisn out on their own also manage to rally and are back in the game.

The thinning of the knights ranks means that the few remaining knights and the master with them can launch a joint charge on skrags unit of ironguts,

completely ignoring the threat of the Hunter and his mount.

Skrag issues a challenge and the knighted master accepts and although he manages to wound skrag a couple of times the Killing blow of skrag kills the master outright, skrag gets his first kill and gains regeneration. The combat ends up a draw which also means skrag keeps his frenzy.

My hunters stonehorn is shot to peices by the empire cannons and magic, leaving the hunter standing alone next to its dead carcase. Another of my large guys is taken down.
There is another unit of knights on the other side of the building and it moves to improve its position. They are charged by the Black Orc General and his few remainging troops whilst the Orc Big uns charge the inn. My other unit of leadbelchers charge the greatswords in an attempt to dodge Lee's mounted generals unit. one of my ironblasters charges the flank of the two remaining knights to assist the ogres combat.

The black orc general kills two knights with his choppa ignoring their armour and with the assist of his orcs another knight unit is put down.
My ironguts thin out the ranks of the swordsmen taking plenty of wounds in return but with the impact hits and the ironguts stomp attack they still win combat but the greatswords are pretty damned stubborn and aint going anywhere.
skrag issues another challenge which is accepted by the empire general who after doing a wound is cut down by another killing blow attack.
my ironblaster and hunter charge the pistoliers and kill them over running with the ironblaster temporarily leaving the battle field leaving the hunter in the open.

The knights fail to rally, and run further down field but the cannon and crossbowmen open up and manage to kill one of my ironblasters. The empire mage targets the building and combined with the empire cannon fire wipe out the orcs in the building.

The Ironguts hit the greatswords hard and they turn tail and run,
Just behind the building you can see the Black Orc General stood alone with many of the empire around him. but Lee's empire general has managed to catch the beer cart, just shows the wiley general has one eye on the battle and another on the mission.

My hunter charges the Organ gun and the ironguts charge the crossbowmen the leadbelchers charge in to assist skrag and finish of the empire swordsmen.
In an uncharacteristic show of sense the Black Orc General decides to occupy the inn, after wiping out dazza's last combat unit and the ironguts successfull however the hunter fluffs his attacks and only takes two wounds from the organ gun.

With the game ending with the Lee's empire in control of the cart and Ben's black orc in possesion of the inn, the game comes down to how many units have been destroyed. The Cart and the Inn are worth 5 points each and each unit destroyed gives an additional point, with such a big game we destroyed 18 units and the empire destroyed 17 units giving the Orcs and Ogres a win by one unit.

This was actually a classic game, really enjoyed it and at no point was the game ever one sided.
skrag took his time getting into combat but once he did he was brutal. and the empire guns where the best ever not once did they destroy themselves and misfires were a minimum.

Brilliant game played in the best tradition of a big bunker game and whats more we actually finished the game. Well done guys it was an amazing game and the mission was truly perfect for the day.
