I've really been captivated by the idea of Vercuso's very own Pied Piper (a highly skilled, morally ambiguous but ruthless hired help as likely to turn on his employers if they try to swindle him).

Fluff wise, he fits perfectly right now - the beleaguered inhabitants of Vercuso, constantly assailed by war and the taint of chaos suddenly find their town infested by rats that only seem to be growing in status and power. Is their anyone that can turn the furry tide...?

If I can give you a little piece of advice: have a look at existing Hired Swords and Dramatis Personae. They're already tested and balanced, so if you keep in line with them the Rat-Catcher should be balanced enough!
When assaigning point cost have a look at the "Fighting individual battles" sections. It's a good guideline, which means you do not have to strictly stick to it! But it may help giving everything a gold crowns value!
BTW: you'll also have to convert the model for the Rat-Catcher!

Yeah I thought that when I read it back

I like the Hangman idea with the noose and axe! What about the axe being a two handed weapon though (a one-handed axe would not have made a very efficient execution weapon)?
And the noose should be a viable weapon regardless of where the close combat takes place, but should still have a special 'hanging' rule like you've written. Maybe the noose can be used to lassoo enemies like a ranged weapon, trapping them and automatically stunning them.

For the noose: it counts as rope and hook and as a weapon witht the following profile:

Range Strength Special Rules
Close Combat as user Surprise Attack, Immobilise

Surprise Attack: The Hangman throws its noose at the enemy as soon as they charge. When charged the Hangam gains +1A at +2I with the Strike First special rule.
Immobilise: If the noose attack fails to wound the opponent will loose one of his attacks (chosen by the Hangman player).

I've just realised the the Hangman is also equipped with a double handed axe...which means he can't use it and the noose at the same time.
I guess that giving him a dagger should solve the problem

personaley i dont think the nose should be a weapon it should be a damage modifier

cos to be honest a nose isent a weapon it would b much more chariturfull for him to incopasitate you with the axe then noose you up for the out of action?

if he was just the hang man then maby yeh but hes the exicuioner in general so hung drawn quatered are all his stile

to be honest giveing that strike first attack is a bit out balenced

with his hi wapon skill and strength hes gone be takeing people down 50% of the time befor thay get a chance o attack hem

and seeing as were going for fluff over power

the noose over a ledge idea seems much more exicutioner like

than a counter strike thing

in all honesty i see an exicutioner stronger and dumber than fast and smart

he knows how to do 2 things chop peoples heads off and hang people

Out of my 3 ideas (see top of page), I think I'm settling on the town crier

Special rules

Obese - Renound for their love of beer and pies town criers are of generous proportions and are particularly resistant to injury.

Ding-a-ling - The Crier carries a large bell, which is used as a double handed weapon, however his size and strength enables him to use it with a single arm like a normal weapon. Always roll for initiative on charges and CC to see who strikes first.

Deafening - The bellowing from the town crier is unbearably loud and therefore causes fear.

Master of insults - Hardened by decades of heckling the Crier can swear and humiliate greater than anyone ever known. His searing tongue combined with his booming voice can be directed at any nominated single model within 12". The Crier rolls an initiative test, if successful the target model suffers a strength 5 hit no armour saves allowed.

80 Gc to hire +30 upkeep, The crier increases the warband rating by +70 points

Can anyone think of any suitably chubby models ( I need some clown/circusy one too) to use, I can only think of the plastic gretchin herder which I was wanting to use for the circus. If not I may use an ogre but I didn't want him to be quite that big.
