The next Luncheim campaign won't be starting until the new year, but I'm already planning my new warband!

Here are the rules I've come up with for savage orcs (based on some Nippy Longskar wrote for me a few years ago):

Orcs may be upgraded to Savage Orcs for +10 gold per Orc (all orcs in the warband must be savage orcs):
- Frenzy (Mordheim rules = double attacks; immune to psych; have to charge; lost once knocked down)
- Magic warpaint – 6+ additional ward save against any wounding hit, ignores save modifiers
- They may not wear any armour or use shields, and may not use a sword or buckler to parry.
- They may not use bows or crossbows, but may take slings at 2gc each.
- They may never use any blackpower or other similarly ‘high-tech’ weapons, even with ‘weapons expert’ skill.

They previously cost +15gc, but I felt that was a little overpriced, particualrly now I've added some more restrictions about ranged and 'high tech' weapons, and not mixing them with 'unsavage' orcs). What do you guys think?

It is said that deep in the uplands of the island of Sartosa lies an utterly inaccessible plateau. None have ever gained access to this place, nor even provided proof of its existence. However, it has been postulated by the Imperial scrivener Dr Deitrch Attenburg that this isolated spot harbours all manner of mysteries and wonders. He believes the plateau has been completely cut off from the rest of the world since the time of the Old Ones. This is of course utterly fanciful speculation, but he has recently claimed to have found physical evidence of his theory.

This so-called evidence is the appearance around Vercuso of a group of greenskins so utterly backward and primitive that they make even the savage orcs of Lustria appear civilized. Preferring to live in caves and using only the most primitive of weaponry, these orcs do not even appear to have developed the foul, elementary language of their more familiar cousins. All greenskins are little more than brute beasts, but the ‘cave orcs’ are brutal, animalistic and devoid of any social skills at all. They are exceptionally aggressive and extremely dangerous.

Any sensible man would fight to eradicate these dreadful beasts, but Dr Deitrch Attenburg has made it his work to study what he calls the ‘Nean der Taal’, a name meaning ‘brute of the cave’ in an obscure gothic dialect. He is currently observing them in their interactions with the other inhabitants of Vercuso. On my way home I was thinking it would be nice to try out my night goblins as they've never had a game of warhammer and it'd be a waste not to use them at all, I've some plastic forest goblin infantry and some squig hoppers too. So I was Thinking if a one off game or you'd be welcome to use them. There's some nifty conversions too.

So I guess you take stupidity tests until you're close enough to try and charge! If I failed a stpidity test and stumbled close enough to charge would I then have to do so (frenzy rules would imply so)?

Also, do mounts gain the frenzy rules too (as they do in WFB)? And do riders gain stupidity? Mordheim isn't really designed for this kind of thing!

I would say the mount does NOT get frenzy as that would make it over powered? - unless you only having one?

i would say that you test for stupidity untill your in charge range,
If you fail stupidity then the cold one cannot attack, or move. untill your next turn. - i think that is what i did with my cold ones when i had them.
the rider can still fight on as normal, but restrained by the mounts unwilling to more

Saul and I chatted about it today and thought the simplest (and actually most balanced) approach was to say both rider and mount are affected by each other's psycology - they are treated as one model. So if the Cold One becomes stupid, the rider does too (although I assume you'd use the rider's Ld to test). He also can't dismount while the cold one is being stupid. If they're within charge range, frenzy overules. The mount gets double attacks too. Scary, yes. But I'm unlikely to end up with more than one as it'll only be heroes who can have them and I'll have to save up the gc, get the riding skill, and then find one!

All greenskins are little more than brute beasts, but the ‘cave orcs’ are brutal, animalistic and devoid of any social skills at all. They are exceptionally aggressive and extremely dangerous.

Any sensible man would fight to eradicate these dreadful beasts, but Dr Deitrch Attenburg has made it his work to study what he calls the ‘Nean der Taal’, a name meaning ‘brute of the cave’ in an obscure gothic dialect. He is currently observing them in their interactions with the other inhabitants of Vercuso. For those with the patience to tolerate his fancies, we will be publishing extracts of the ramblings of his notebooks...

A small but dangerous group of the cave orcs appears to have found a den in the Binnacle Yard area of Vercuso. Quite why they have chosen this location is a mystery to me. I would have expected them to seek out a cave to dwell in, but urban Vercuso seems lacking in such geographical features - although the ruined state of the town could be seen as providing many cave-like dwellings.

Thus far, the only element of their language I have managed to discern is the names they appear to use for one another (although I am confident that I will soon be able to translate properly and who knows what sophistications of culture I may then discover?). I have however determined a clear hierarchy within the group based essentially on strength and brutality (just like their more advanced greenskin cousins).

The dominant orc in the group is clearly the large one who is normally seen wearing a skull head-dress (this appears to be more ceremonial than military in purpose - unlike the array of stone weapons he carries). I believe he is referred to as 'Uhg-ug-ugg' by the rest of the group. The next most dominant members are ‘Uhg-ugh’ and the ancient ‘Uhgg-uhgg’, both of whom wield enormous clubs made of wood or carved bone with which they brutally assert their authority over the group. Another individual of note appears to be called 'Oooogh' although this may simply be the other orcs' expression of fear and respect for him: He seems set apart from the group, wearing very few furs and often mumbling to himself. I have not yet discerned his role or status. The remaining four cave orcs all appear to refer to one another as 'Ug'.

Mass violence has suddenly erupted all over Vercuso as the various warbands who have recently moved into the port have started attacking one another. The group of cave orcs I am observing has been in the thick of the fighting right from the start, as I shall now recount along with my illustrative sketchings:

I must confess to being shocked and sickened by the brutal aggression of these violent creatures: I watched them see off a witch hunter and his small hoard of zealous farmers in almost no time at all, taking control of the area known as Dumplington.

I have now discerned the role of the orc who seems to be known as ‘Oooogh’ – I believe him to be some kind of primitive magic-user or shaman. I swear I saw him hurl the witch hunter off his feet from some distance away, casting the hapless man back into two of his followers! And on a couple of occasions, in the brief moments before the cave orcs engaged their enemies, I witnessed what appeared to be green lightening flashing from his nostrils to cast his foes aside!

Very soon after, while foraging around the Barrel O’Monkeys, the savages were set upon by the sinister circus of Papa Jingle. Being scattered and surprised, I thought the bestial greenskins done for, but despite their ill discipline, most of the greenskins regrouped and hit Jingle’s troupe back so hard that the clowns ran for their lives!

Even as they fight, I discern that the cave orcs are rapidly adapting to the urban habitat, honing their combat skills and growing in frenzied confidence. Furthermore, other cave orcs seem to be entering the town, gradually increasing the size of Uhg-ug-ugg's vicious little tribe.

Then for the third time on one day the cave orcs were up to their necks in violence, this time with a band of human barbarians hardly more civilized than themselves. The orcs had discovered something of value in a building in the vicinity of The Old Temple where the barbarians had made their lair. The primitive humans sought to drive the orcs away but were unprepared for the brutality of the greenskins’ response.

Finally, as the sun set in a blood-soaked sky, a great gathering of no less than seven warbands converged on The Barrel of Monkeys. Rumour has it that the Circus drew the fighting into the cave orcs’ new-found territory in order to steal it from them. If this were indeed the case, such machinations are far beyond the animalistic intelligence of these brute beasts: Spying their former adversaries the barbarians, the savage greenskins immediately engaged them in an appallingly bloody street fight. Soon after, the few barbarians left standing had swiftly retreated leaving only one orc casualty, the mysterious Oooogh, lying in a pool of his own blood.

But Uhg-ug-ugg's victory was short-sighted: The Circus is now entertaining The Barrel of Monkeys.

As my readers will appreciate, observing such violent behaviours is a hazardous occupation. I have taken to hiding myself near the tops of tall buildings, hoping that gold crowns will persuade aggressors of my neutrality should I be discovered. On this occasion, there was so much activity in the streets below that I was forced to stay up in the tower until dawn, hoping to retrieve Oooogh’s body for dissection when the coast was clear. But during the dead of night I awoke to strange and terrible sounds, and looking down upon the site of the orcs’ earlier street fight, I spied a figure in dark robes dragging the dead shaman’s body away! Could it be that I am not the only academic in Vercuso interested in the anatomy of these brute beasts? I must keep watch over my notes and parchments lest my rival tries to steal the fruits of my academic labour too! I must discover the identity of the body-snatcher and his intentions...

In fact one of the lesser cave orcs appears to have gained some status in the group after defeating the oriental orcs' leader. Furthermore, the warband has been joined by an ogre who, judging by her attire, appears to be a female. I'm still about 30 behind Dazza, even after having played one more game. And the free ogre is artifically inflating my warband rating. Having said that, I am very pleased with how the warband is doing. I was quite lucky against Saul today, especially when all my out-of-action models recovered!
