The original idea was just that Tim: A small number of named Pit Fighters instead of the anonymous ones we've always had before.

The Championship has grown out of this idea and should be the focus of the Pit fights. I think the option of sending captured enemy models to the pits is enough extra, people can volunteer to send their own heroes (though I can't see many doing that!).

I think a simplified betting system is needed, with a maximum stake (I'm thinking about 10gc) and maybe odds based on the Pit Fighters relative experience totals?

Normal 'Sent to Pits' roll will generate a fight between the hero and a randomly determined Pit Fighter Character (PFC), even one 'sponsored' by the hero's warband! Bets can be placed on this fight (stakes/winnings to be confirmed).

A Pit Fighting championship will run alongside the Vercuso campaign, where scheduled fights take place between the PFCs. Betting allowed on these fights. See Victors rules once ratified.

PFC injuries, earning experience and experience rolls all done using warband hero tables. If a PFC is injured and rolls 'Sent to Pits' or 'captured', treat it as a 'fully recovered'. These warriors are heavily sponsored and valuable!

A warband may send a captured enemy to the pits to generate a fight, naming their 'sponsored' PFC if preferred. A warband may not voluntarily send one of their own heroes to the pits - it's just too risky!

I've had an idea about a new scenario table for the next campaign. Dave said he has a folder full of scenarios and it would be great to try them out so I was thinking about a D66 table with the 30 locations in Vercuso and 6 "pick a location" results. Then each location would have a D6 table with 5 scenarios and a "pick a scenario from those 5" result.

I'll write it up propperly when I'M back in the UK but hopefully you get the idea

Well, I've finally got round to reading this thread... what an awesome load of ideas! I'm loving it! Could someone have a go at pulling everything together so we can finalise what the plan is? The key elements seem to be:
> Pit fighting championship for our pit fighter characters.
> Betting system for said pit fighting championship (@Andy - I can't see any reason why we can't work out in advance who's going to be fighting whom).
> Slightly-developed pit fighting rules for injured heroes.

I've also built a couple of pit fighters (thanks for the bits Saul!) and hope to get them painted v. soon. May I suggest our Pit Fighter characters should be able to take Rare items from the common equipment list? 1) This would make for some more exotic and varied pit fighters, befitting their careers and backgrounds; 2) It would mean I could tool-up my slightly under-equipped models!!
Given the 35gc limit on equipment, I don't think this would mess balance up. (Where rare items have variable cost, I suggest they just cost the maximum.)

It's been too long since I last played Mordheim! How many weapons can a model take? I'm trying to equip my pit fighters...

In Viktor's cool pit fighting rules, I notice a combat can be broken off and then start again. Would that mean fighters could change weapons? I really like the idea of pit fighters armed to the teeth and showing off their skill with different weapon combinations to please the crowd!
