The island of Sartosa is once more the centre of attention for more than just pirates and their victims. A massive Storm of Magic is brewing on the mainland and the unfortunate island is in the path of the maelstrom.

The Pirates Current has become destabilised and unpredictable, many great and terrible monsters have come ashore (and this time, not just the usual great and terrible sea monsters). The Cracked Bloodfane has started exhibiting alarming phenomena such as weeping blood and arcing red lightning.

To make matters worse The Tower of Nakh has materialised on Sartosa. All the wizards in the surrounding lands (and some from much further afield) have sensed its presence and are drawn to its power. Some have come with armies of their own; others are looking for an army to protect them whole on the island. The only problem is that the Tower of Nakh seems to be slightly detached from the material world. It has become "unstuck" by the Storm of Magic's influence on the powers within it and it occasionally "blinks" out of existence, then "blinks" back at a different location on the island. Many lesser wizards have started making a tidy profit selling predictions about where the tower will appear next!

Whenever the tower is located all the forces on the island converge on its location (the more powerful wizards often get their army to the correct location even before the tower appears; either through careful observation and measurement of Gellermetric pressure, reading the entrails of certain fish, pattern recognition torcs or any number of other occult means). Almost every time it materialises a battle must be fought between rival factions for control of the tower. It is rare that a single army will be on site when the Tower of Nakh shows up.

The Tower is always accompanied (in fact it is often preceded) by a halo of Arcane Fulcrums. Control of these Fulcrums is thought by those in the know to be the key to controlling the tower and its secrets. It has not yet been achieved but the senior prognosticators are convinced that if the web of Arcane Fulcrums can be controlled then the tower can be finally fixed in place and permanently controlled.

The time has come, once more, to muster your warbands and armies and take to the field in the hope of fortune and glory, or at very least avoiding ignoble defeat!

Saul and me had a chat today about themed weeks for this campaign.
Things like the Daemon Week, the Quest Week, the Monster Week...
Here are a few ideas that I had following that discussion

The Daemon Week
Fights, the casting of magic, the share hatred that erupts during a warbands clash have always attracted daemons. But during a Storm of Magic they can find their way to the material realm much more easily
At the end of each game turn roll a D6 and adds the following modifiers. If the total is 6 or more a lesser daemon claws its way to the battlefield (choose either a Plague Bearer, Daemonette, Bloodletter or Horror from the Bestiary in Border Town Burning).

+ Turn number (yes, the daemon will automatically appear at the end of game turn 5)
+1 if there are ongoing fights when rolling
+1 if a spell has been succesfully cast during the game turn

Fighty daemons (Plague Bearers, Demonettes, Bloodletters) will appear in the middle of the table and will move towards/charge the nearest model of either side.
Shooty daemons (Horrors) will appear 8" from a neutral table edge and will shoot following the normal rules for picking target. They will move towards a possible target if out of range, or away from them if they could be charged in the following turn.
A character or henchmen who banishes a daemon will earn 5 experience points.

The Quest Week
Long forgotten magic items are always unveiled during a Storm of Magic. No sane warband leader would miss the chance to put his gready fingers on one of them.
At the end of each game, during the exploration phase both warbands roll a D6. The winning warband is allowed to re-roll it. Whoever scores higher rolls a D6 on the following table. In the case of a tie both warbands roll on the table.

1 Nothing! The rumor about magic items were just folk tales.
2-3 A book bristling with power. You get a Tome of Magic (Holy Tome for Sisters of Sigmar and Witch Hunters)
4-6 The item was found! Roll on the Magic Artefacts Table (LRB, page 100)

The Monster Week
Monsters are drawn to Storms of Magic like moths to a candle. Even young examplars or packs of smaller creatures leave their den and follow the blowing Winds.
Any multiplayer game during this week will automatically be a Monster Hunt (see Chaos in the Streets, Annual 2002). In regular games D3+3 smaller monsters (giant spiders/wolves, warboars, chaos hounds, cold ones, Annual 2002 and Empire in Flames) will deploy in the middle of the table. Half of them will move towards/charge models from one warband, the remaining will do the same with the other. Roll off for any spare monster.

Here's the Quest Week rule:

Long forgotten magic items are always unveiled during a Storm of Magic. No sane warband leader would miss the chance to put his greedy fingers on one of them.

At the end of each game, during the exploration phase both warbands roll a D6. The winning warband is allowed to re-roll it. Whoever scores higher rolls a D6 on the following table. In the case of a tie both warbands roll on the table.

Here you have an idea for the final game scenario.

In ages past, the Tower of Nakh already materialised on Sartosa. Legend has it that a half-mad Arabyan wizard known as Ibn Al Aziz studied it extensively deep into the Sartosan jungle. Al Aziz had a palace built there, the very bricks and tiles moulded with warpstone and laid in such a way to channel the Winds of Magic to help locate and fix the Tower. The ruins of Al Aziz’s palace have been finally discovered. While the Storm is reaching its peak, many wizards are leading their forces to seize them.

Set-up
Place a suitable, mid-sized ruin in the centre of the table to represent Al Aziz’s palace. Set up the rest of the table as normal, but do not place the Mermaid Emporium.

Deployment & Starting the game
As per the normal multiplayer rules.

Winning the game
No Route tests are taken. Play the game to an agreed number of turns or time limit. The warband that has more wizards (or Windcatchers) inside Al Aziz’s palace at the end of the game is the winner.

The Raging Storm
At the end of every game turn roll on the following table to determine the effects of the Storm of Magic.

2D6 Event
2-3 The Mermaid Emporium disappears and reappears 3D6" away in a random direction. If the Mermaid Emporium hasn’t appeared yet, treat this result as 4-5 instead.
4-5 A random player can move a wood of his choice D6" in any direction. No player can move another wood until all players have had a chance at it.
6 A zombie moves in a random direction from the edge of Al Aziz’s palace. In the following turns it will move toward the closest visible model, charging if possible.
7 The Mermaid Emporium appears 4D6" away from the centre of Al Aziz’s palace in a random direction. If this result is rolled again, a random Lesser Magic spell is cast in a random direction hitting the first model in range. Measure from the edges of the Emporium.
8 A random daemon appears in the centre of Al Aziz’s palace. It will act as per the Daemon Week rules. Once all the daemons have appeared treat this result as 6 instead.
9-10 A random player can move a hill of his choice D6" in any direction. No player can move another hill until all players have had a chance at it.
11-12 The Mermaid Emporium disappears and reappears 3D6" away in a random direction. If the Mermaid Emporium hasn’t appeared yet, treat this result as 9-10 instead.

Every model moved over or touched by a moving terrain must pass an Initiative test or suffer a S3 hit.
