Lee and I have started a mini Battletech Campaign

we decided to have one vet and one rookie with the other pilots as standard skill levels, if a mechwarrior dies in a game he will be replaced next game by a rookie, for each 4 mech kills by a pilot he can improve a single pilot or gunnery skill by one.
(The lower the skill level value the better.)
My mechwarriors used in the first game are

and Lee's are

Magnus Reid
Jennifer Kurit (Rookie)

In our first game Blake Knight killed my rookies 20 ton locust, whilst Yuri and Gus each took out a mech and the rest of Lee's mechs bugging out.

we have made some changes to our campaign and to play a smaller 150 ton a side game we desided for now we could use new mechs (adding another 150 tons each to our pool). Once we had picked our mechs we decided to randomly determine which pilots were available to pilot our mechs.
I was using a mighty 100 ton Atlas and a 50 ton Enforcer, I rolled Gus and Russell as my pilots and gave gus the Atlas hoping to increase his kill count and Russell to the Enforcer.

Lee was using a 70 ton Grasshopper a 55 ton Dervish and a 25 ton Commando. With his veteran Bruce Leigh in the grasshopper and Jennifer Kurit in the tiny Commando the game was afoot.

With my Atlas lumbering forward as fast as possible and my Enforcer attempting a rear flank maneauvre a couple of early shots left a few lucky holes in the Armour of the Dervish, especially with the autocannon 20 from the atlas hitting home.

Lee started to back his Dervish away from the Atlas and his veteran Bruce Lee decided to jump in and try take this close and personal to the Atlas, unfortunately he miss judged his jump and crashed the floor next lying prone on the ground with the Atlas bearing in.

My Enforcer was taking cover in the heavy woods, out of sight out of mind for the present, but ready to take the fight to the enemy as soon as the situation presented itself

Bruce Leigh got his mech upright and tried to get as far from the Atlas as possible. Russell seizing the advantage jumped his enforcer out into the open ready to chase down the backing off dervish. Whilst Jennifer's Commando running at speed looked to distract the atlas. The atlas opened up and blew the Commando to bits with another Autocannon 20 round hitting home.

With one down and two to go it looked like Lee was starting to fight a rearguard action sensing blood the Atlas charges forward trying to cut down the grasshoppers escape, whilst the atlas and the enforcer fired pot shots at Blakes Dervish bugged out leaving Bruce Leigh alone in his grasshopper against both of my Mechs

After playing cat and mouse with Lee's grasshoper working hard to stay in cover whilst shooting at my Atlas and my dervish running around trying to stay behind him, Bruce eventually makes a bad jump and falls crashing to the floor. Like vultures my mechs close in firing as many weapons as possible and a lucky critical hit by Gus hits the grasshoppers Gyro, severely affecting his ability to pilot his mech. After three attempts the mech standsa but Gus and Russell are upon him and open up with their weapons, Russells enforcer looses his Autocannon 10 a shot before it runs out of Ammo.
But Gus fires of another shot from his autocannon 20 straight into the head of the grasshopper blowing its cockpit to smithereens, with the last image being of the mechs ejection system blasting Bruce to safety away from the wrecked mech.

Liking this campaign idea and building up kills for our mechwarriors is giving it some flavour and the potential expansion of skills. At present we are just keeping a tally of lost mechs and tonnage etc, but hopefully we will put more detail into this and allow for battlefield scavenging.
Also if a mechwarrior is killed he will be replaced by a rookie pilot, also once a pilot takes part in a mission he cannot take part in the next mission (Ensuring we have some rotation of pilots) and if a pilot is dispossessed (loses his mech) he misses out on 2 missions.

Should be a lot of fun (and nice and warm!) feel the warmth of the engines and the thrapp of laser fire, lets loose the mechs of war.

2 turns in and the opening shots have fired. typically my pilots are all too busy playing computer games to shoot the mechs trying to kill them...as usual my shootong is spread over every location, whilst Richard manages to hit the same location with every hit.

no mechs down so far though my Jenner is looking like it may need a new leg soon. at the moment the game is a slow moving spearhead vs a hornets nest of ineffectual flank attacks...now i know how Xerxes felt facing Leonidas.

Lee's spider ran forward, meaning its has a +2 modifier to its own shooting but a massive +4 to anyone attempting to shoot it, thats a lot on 2 dice.
