Pfff I really do hate it. I was speaking to the store manager of maurder games in marple who told me GW sales have gone through the floor since 5th came out. They pratically don't stock WHFB at all now and have limited range of 40k items too. He claims silly prices, rules make people try other up and coming games - he mentioned Warmachine was a big seller and hardly any of the local kids now play 40k.

He also said GW had a new management team from Boots of all places come in - surprised we;re not seeing more 3 for 2's and club card points....

Sorry but as I always have said - if I need it and I'm in manchester then sure I'll buy some paint/sprays etc but for models it's eBay/warseer/bit stores all the way. Sorry GW but this is one vet you just keep pissing off.

Tons of shops etc are really discounting hard to get sales in. GW won't do it though. Anyone remember the Skullz promotions? Basically loyalty points. Great idea, phased out some time around 2002/3ish never to return.

Despite GW's belief, luxury items are not recession proof. Meh, I've been spending my money with Battlefront anyway. Not particularly cheaper than GW, but I feel the company offer more value overall. I think they've raised their prices once in the last 2 years and the Managing Director guy promised not to raise them for at least another 2 years when they did it.

Any ideas on how much the increase is?
From the new empire stuff it looks like 12 quid going to 15 and 20 going to 25. Then probably a pound or two on the blisters.

Wedll thats a fair enough comment about muarder games. TBH i take everything with a pinch of salt however even if trade sales go up their still cheaper than store prices. However, can you see one good reason why GW should put their prices up? Cost of produce is cheaper, fuel is cheaper and lets face it people who have lost their jobs are tightening their belts and not buying as much.

Isn't it a bit of an unfair question to ask him about the company he works for. I'm sure they don't look too favorably on employees disagreeing with the company. I remember working for a company were we had to sign an agreement not to voice our objections publicly.

i dont see why 10 greatswords are £25. seams a little steep to me to say the least. tho the set is far superior to all the other sets in the same range i would put it in ie temple guard, grave guard...elite infantry. greatswords i believe are £15 for 5 so £60 for 20 (the unit size you would have) so technically they have gone down in price and arnt an often used unit, certainly never seen anyone take more than one if that. however yes, more than i expected them to be definatly.

i cant disagree with or not with the price change yet as i dont know what it will affect. likewise the reasons have not been officially explained tho knowing what they have planned i can see why a price rise would be needed.

wayland have the actual price on the metals as £12 for basic, £15 for command on the greatswords. they had a slight price rise when they switched to boxes. (used to be 3 for £6) may have to search out the old metals now.

I think we all agree the greatswords seem a little pricey, i feel bad for mike being the bearer of bad news though.
The logic seems a little awry from GW's point of view but hey i guess there accountants have done the maths and they believe they know what they are doing. (Lets face it every company in the world has people in decision making positions who you just wouldnt trust to know the price of bread!)

My main worry is the fact that GW was the top wargaming company in England and produced the best game, i still they produce the best models but the gaming rules could be slipping. Im hoping this isnt a sign of things to come. Lee and I was talking to my mate yesterday and he started doing warhammer because it meant he had somewhere to go and game, im sure a lot of other people start of like that.

But these price hikes must be as off putting to the new gamer as well as the veteran.

On the topic of indi stores -v- GW retail. If i am buying the odd box or 2 here and there then sure i will just buy them in GW as after you factor in shipping the savings are often negilable. But when you start applying 25% discount to a couple of 100 worth of kit then i am always going to go with the discount as there is no way i can justify spending that much more than i have to. Its a simple case of economics. I support GW stores but there comes a point when you have to draw the line and support your own wallet.
