[img][/img]Jimmy and I had a quick practice game last night before Club Challenge. Jimmy needed to try out his First Army list as they are different from the usual Afrika Brit Rifles, being Confident Trained instead of Confident Veteran. The drop in rating makes thenm less good, but he gets an extra 450 points to play with. I was using my usual MW tournament list, but hadn't played for ages.

We rolled up the Cauldron mission, with Jimmy defending as an infantry company, and I as tanks attacking. The table:

Jimmy sets up first:
I deploy 2 platoons in random quarters. As it turns out my infantry deploy to the left behind the hill with the observer on and my T-34s deploy to the top of the picture hidden in a wood from the nasty Churchills. My infatry managed to deploy out of LOS and within assault range of Jimmys guns which was good for the first turn.
Jimmys immediate ambush of a pair of 6lb guns can be seen top left looking down the road at my T-34s.
From their perspective:
First turn was Jimmys. He moved his Churchills forward so that they could get shots at my T-34s. Due to this they only got 1 shot each rather than their normal 3. Getting tanks to move to shoot at you helps reduce your damage a lot. Its often better to run and/or hide against superior tanks.
They and the 6lbers blazed away at my T-34s. He managed to destroy the commander which was a bit of a setback, killed another and bailed one. His artillery also bombarded my infantry, killing a team. The drop to a trained rating hurt Jimmy here as he was only able to hit a few teams despite 10 being under the template.
In my turn I got lucky, getting my T-70s from reserve immediately. They came on to support my infantry and shoot at Jimmys artillery. The infantry moved forward ready to assault the artillery.
As Jimmy had aggressively moved his Churchills forward I was able to get my tanks into his side armour killing one and bailing another. I was really worried about those beasts so that was a good start.
Meanwhile T-70 shooting and SMG fire pinned Jimmys artillery and killed a couple of guns.

The infantry successfully knocked off the guns, but foolishly advanced without waiting for their armoured support. Next turn Jimmy rifle platoon didn't let them get away with it:
8 teams dies and the remainder fled. Jimmy also killed and bailed a few T-34s but not enough to cause a morale check. Getting back in to their tanks they killed the Churchill commander forcing the remaining tank to flee:
Meanwhile the T-70 advance stright into assault with Jimmys rifle platoon on the objective:
After a brutal and rather stuffy few rounds of combat for me the infantry break and flee leaving me in control of the objective:
Having lost 3 out of 4 platoons on the table, Jimmy needs a company morale check to stay in the fight and try and summon some reserves. He rolls a 1 and runs away like a girl. Victory to the Soviets!
