Hi guys.

Slightly bored at work today, so I started thinking of ways to bring the Necrons into 2012 - all just random ideas for now (of course).

based off the EUK list, I struggled with the following things:

Transports - Some formations can buy Transports now, by the letter of the rules as they are written they'd phase out when broken, but then can't re-enter play through portals.

Thought about this a bit, and at first thought about making them move slowly but teleport - then I thought "so what if you kill some transports, break the formation, it phases out then can't re enter play because you've not got enough Transports to carry everyone back".

The solution I came to in the end was to add a note of 'may not phase out' to the transports and amend the phase out rule to say 'formations where all units may phase out' at the start. That way a unit with Transports stays on the board like any other unless it loses all of them, in which case it can make use of Portals, maybe not great but the neatest I could think of.

The Night Scythe was another pita - it's a flying transport upgrade. I figured the best way to represent this was a skimming transport AV, but maybe give it an AA attack to simulate that it can 'get up there' and hit planes (this would tie in with the list losing Pylons I guess), any thoughts on this one?? It's supposed to have a portal too, so maybe treat them as just having a portal? Bloody GW!!!

Pariahs would need to go (boo!!).

I guess we'd have to add Cryptek Characters too, but here again I thought maybe the Crypeks should become the leaders (they're all about fixing stuff) maybe give Lords inspiring (partly to make up for the lost Pariahs, and represent them making the Necrons around them work properly ).

Other than that, leave the Harvester Engines as they are, remove the Pylon and add a C'tan shard unit?? Stat up the rest of the units, Profit?

I actually know very little about new Necrons but "If you build it they will come". Put a list together and I'll gladly help with playtest and possible fwding on to Steve and co to tinker with.

Whilst that might mechanically work, removing the Necrons infantry formation's main attack tactic (out of one portal, firefight, consolidate out of another portal) would be more of a downside than a bonus to my mind.

I agree, treating it more as a fast (40cm?) skimmer like a Valkyrie than a true flyer would be the best way to get it to work at Epic scale.

Maybe give it leader to represent using the portal to bring more Necrons into play, rather than having a true portal like a Monolith?

I'd suggest removing the Harvester Engines & Obelisks because they were made up for the Epic list.

Why would you want to remove Pylons?

C'tan could probably do with a poke to make them a bit more generic (single statline?).

My thought was simply that the Pylon is firmly part of the modern 40k background/game so it'd be odd to remove it if you want to make a "modern" list.

It's more the general lack of competent leadership in list development - the community itself is actually doing rather well and is growing.
But when your most active rule committee member doesn't even play TacComms rules/lists, and the head of the committee has never finished a single list, something's gone wrong with your list development organisation.

Maybe it actually needs a kick to get it working again, shrug; there's plenty of potential, but a lack of strong leadership means that list development has just devolved into darwinianism (hah).

EUK and rules off the GW site + odds and ends from elsewhere seems to be serving us ok, but I'm sure that most groups arrive at whatever pleases most of the people most of the time. It's sad that there is that level of fragmentation as it's a bit (more) of a barrier to entry but I guess it will always be there now.

I agree 100% about the lack of effective leadership - it's not going to get any better imho.
